Motorcycle Insurance

Motorcyclists are a special breed. The feeling of hopping on and catching the wind appeals to your unique sense of self-reliance and independence. We get it.

We share your love of cruising the open road and feeling the kind of freedom only a motorcycle can offer. Of course, not all riders are alike. That’s why we tailor the precise policy you need to protect yourself and whatever style of bike you ride. If you live in Washington, California, or Arizona, chances are we cover what you ride.

How We’re Different

There are as many kinds of motorcycles as there are riders. And as the popularity of motorcycling continues to grow, especially among women, more styles and sizes of bikes come onto the market each year. Whether you’re into cruisers, choppers, sport cycles, touring bikes, scooters, or dirt bikes FirstMark has the coverage you need to properly protect it. Enjoy the flexibility of choosing the best policy to fit your life by letting a knowledgeable agent work with you to find coverage to meet your needs.

What Your Motorcycle Policy Covers

Your mandatory motorcycle insurance requirements will depend on where you live. Of course, FirstMark policies are written to satisfy all state requirements, so talk with a an agent to learn about mandatory insurance levels in your area including:

Comprehensive

Comprehensive coverage helps pay for repairs or replacement if your motorcycle is stolen, vandalized, or damaged in some way other than a collision. This coverage also protects you against loss or damage from flooding, fire, falling objects, wind, and collision with an animal.

Collision

This coverage helps pay for repairs to your motorcycle for damage caused by an accident regardless of who is at fault. So, you’re covered if your bike is knocked over, hit, or collides with another object.

Medical Payments

No matter who is at fault, coverage is available to pay hospital bills and other medical care expenses for you and a guest passenger injured in an accident.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) Coverage

It’s a common misconception that your health insurance will always cover additional medical bills you may have because of an accident. Actually, that’s what UM/UIM coverage is for. It pays for the care you need that isn’t covered by your health insurance. This includes pain and suffering, scarring, permanent impairment, and other conditions.

And since motorcycle accidents can be severe, it’s important to be well protected. UM coverage can’t exceed bodily injury limits, so it’s best to select limits that are what you want for yourself for both bodily injury and uninsured motorist coverage. Some states require you to carry this coverage to help pay for expenses from an injury or death caused by an uninsured, underinsured, or hit-and-run driver, so check with an agent about requirements in your area. This coverage also protects you if you are hit by a vehicle as a pedestrian.

Roadside Assistance

Ride with confidence knowing help is on the way if you need it. Motorcycle roadside assistance includes towing to the nearest qualified repair shop, fuel and fluids delivery, basic emergency services, trip interruption benefits, and more.

Trip Interruption Coverage

Trip interruption benefits are automatically included with your coverage. This helps pay for food and lodging if you’re stranded far from home due to a breakdown.

Custom Parts and Equipment

Custom parts reflect who you are — and they’re an important part of what makes your bike distinctly yours. You also have the option to increase coverage up to $20,000 per bike. We will repair or replace your custom parts and equipment without adjustment for depreciation, which means your customizations are fully protected.

OEM Parts Coverage

If something happens to your bike, you want to be sure the repairs are done right. Optional motorcycle coverage is available to include use of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts during repairs. For more details, contact FirstMark.

New Harley-Davidson® Replacement Cost

We may be able to provide total loss coverage on a current model year Harley-Davidson if you are the original owner and purchased it within the last year. Otherwise, most of our policies offer ACV, like an auto policy.

Bodily Injury Liability
This helps pay for hospital bills, medical expenses, and other costs related to an accident you are responsible for that injures someone other than a guest passenger. This coverage is the amount available to other people in the event of an injury. Since even relatively minor accidents can incur significant medical costs, having enough body injury liability is important for your protection. Talk with a FirstMark agent to assess your risk.
Guest Passenger Liability
Specifically covers medical expenses for a guest passenger riding with you on your motorcycle. This does not include your spouse, who is already protected under your medical coverage.
Property Damage Liability
This helps pay for repairs to someone else’s vehicle or personal property if you’re responsible for an accident.

FAQs

What does motorcycle insurance cover?
A basic motorcycle policy helps pay for repairs and other expenses related to damage and injury resulting from an accident you may or may not have caused. Optional additional coverage can be added for such items as roadside assistance, uninsured motorist protection, trip interruption, custom parts and equipment, and more.
What types of motorcycles does FirstMark cover?
FirstMark insures a wide variety of bike sizes and styles. We even insure dual, off-road and dirt bikes, scooters, mopeds, and select customer, homemade and kit bikes. We can also insure snowmobiles, ATVs, utility terrain vehicles, golf carts, and low-speed vehicles.
I race my motorcycle. Is FirstMark coverage right for me?
No. FirstMark does not cover motorcycles used for racing or speed contests or those with nitrous oxide kits installed.
Does FirstMark offer discounts on motorcycle insurance?
Yes. We offer customer discounts for completing an approved motorcycle safety course, joining a motorcycle club, lifetime riding experience, owning your home, and storing your bike in a garage. And that’s just the short list. For a complete list of discounts and savings options talk with an agent.
Will I save money if I belong to a motorcycle association?
Yes! There are many benefits to joining and participating in a motorcycle association. Plus, FirstMark will reward you with a discount for maintaining active membership in one of 24 approved riding clubs across the U.S.
What if I’m hit by another driver who is underinsured or not insured at all?
You have enough to pay attention to while driving. Being in an accident with an uninsured or underinsured (UM/UIM) driver shouldn’t be one of them. That’s why FirstMark offers protection against the cost of injuries or damage you may experience as a result of an accident caused by an UM/UIM motorist. Depending on which state you live in, you may already be required to carry UM/UIM coverage, so talk with an agent to be sure.
I’m a new rider. Am I eligible for insurance with FirstMark?
Absolutely! We were all new riders once. Talk to an agent about the value of a FirstMark motorcycle policy. We also recommend taking a motorcycle safety course. It will teach you fundamental skills and you’ll also receive a 10% discount on your FirstMark premium.
I’m an experienced rider. How do you reward my riding experience?
We know experienced riders are generally safer on the road, so FirstMark offers big discounts for those who have put in the road time. We even offer a discount if you’ve been riding the same bike for a while.
Can I insure multiple vehicles on the same policy?
Of course! We even offer a discount for having multiple bikes (or off-road vehicles like a snowmobile or ATV) on the same policy.
Do you insure trikes?
We insure vehicles that are manufactured as trikes, such as the Tri Glide. FirstMark also insures trike conversions if the kit was manufactured by Lehman Trikes, Motor Trikes, The Trike Shop, California Sidecar, D.F.T. Tri Wing Industries, Hannigan, or Champion Sidecar. (The conversion kit will be covered under Custom Parts & Equipment.) We automatically include $3,000 of custom equipment coverage, but you can increase it to $20,000 of coverage per bike if you prefer.
I like to go for long rides of 100 miles or more. What happens if I break down?
FirstMark will be there for you in the event of a breakdown. We offer two levels of roadside coverage. If you tend to stick closer to home, roadside assistance will cover your towing expense coverage and labor costs to help fix an electrical or mechanical breakdown, dead battery, flat tire, or lack of essential fluids. If you like to take long road trips, we recommend trip interruption coverage, which provides reimbursement for expenses for lodging, meals, and transportation costs if your bike is disabled more than 100 miles from home.
What if my driving record isn’t perfect or I need a SR-22. Can I still insure my bike with FirstMark?
FirstMark welcomes a broad range of motorcycle customers and can typically insure someone with a few blemishes on his or her driving record. However, we currently don’t provide motorcycle insurance to customers who require a financial responsibility filing (SR-22).
Do you cover bikes with modifications?
We know how much you love your bike and customizing is what really makes it yours. That’s what FirstMark’s Custom Parts & Equipment coverage is for. This option covers all the after-market updates to your bike, including things like chrome, custom paint, saddle bags, swing arms, side cars, GPS systems, and more. We automatically include $3,000 of custom parts and equipment coverage when you purchase comprehensive and/or collision coverage for your bike. If your bike has more than $3,000 of custom parts or equipment, you can add up to $20,000 of coverage (per bike) for an additional premium. All custom parts and equipment will be repaired or replaced without an adjustment for depreciation.

FirstMark currently does not insure motorcycles with front fork extension or a handlebar extension greater than six inches over the original manufacturer’s length.

Do you cover Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts?
Yes. Every FirstMark motorcycle policy that includes comprehensive and/or collision coverage automatically includes OEM parts coverage. Rest assured: if your motorcycle is damaged we’ll use an original part to repair it.
I have a lot invested in my riding gear. How do you cover safety apparel and equipment?
At FirstMark, we take safety seriously — and we’re glad you do, too. That’s why every policy, even if you have liability-only coverage, includes $1,000 of coverage per rider for safety apparel. This covers your helmet, riding jacket, leathers, boots, gloves, and even riding goggles.
Can I ride my bike in a parade or charity ride?
Absolutely! We know that charity rides are important to many enthusiasts.
Are there limitations on where I can ride my bike?
Your FirstMark motorcycle policy covers you anywhere you ride in the United States and Canada. Because the insurance laws in Mexico are different, however, you’ll need to obtain insurance coverage there if you’re taking a ride south of the U.S. border.

There is no cost or obligation to see if we can improve your coverage, reduce your risk and save you money!
